James T. ‘Tot’ Goodman

James T. “Tot” Goodman, age 89, passed away on Saturday morning, March 5, 2016, at his home in Americus.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 7, from the graveside at Oak Grove Cemetery. Rev. Keith Parks officiated.

Pallbearers were Johnny Heath, Johnny Womack, Eddie Bryant, Carl Clemens, Stevie Kirkland, and Daryl Tucker. Current and retired employees of Sumter EMC were requested to serve as honorary pallbearers.

Born August 22, 1926 in Monticello, Mr. Goodman was the son of the late James Newton Goodman and Florrie Laree Minter Goodman. Mr. Goodman was a retired general foreman with Sumter EMC, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Americus. He was a former member of the VFW and of the Elk’s Club. Mr. Goodman was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served from 1944-1946, and his fleet was en route to Japan at the end of World War II.

Mr. Goodman is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Ruby Wimberly Goodman; son, James Thomas “Jim” Goodman (Barbara) of Americus; daughter, Susan Michelle Wilson (William G. “Junior”) of Americus; six grandchildren: Shannon Wilson, Shane Wilson (Brittany), Michael Wilson, Stephen Wilson, and Travis Goodman (Vicki), all of Americus, and Michelle Sellers (Blake) of Dawsonville, GA; nine great-grandchildren: Hunter Wilson, Courtney Wilson, Cierra Wilson, Lacie Sellers, Garrett Sellers, Andrew Goodman, Echo Carter, Channon Biddle, and Mya Wardana; two sisters, Sara Kinard of Monticello, and Janice Gibson (Randy) of Talking Rock; and several nieces and nephews.
