Cougar Track Debuts
Several strong efforts highlighted the season debut for the Piedmont Academy track teams March 9 at Briarwood Academy in Warrenton.
Freshman Neely Bradford earned second place in the shot put for the Lady Cougars (23-1) at the multi-school event.
Several members of the varsity girls earned third place finishes including:
•Bailyn Whitaker, 100-meter hurdles, 21.53
•Gracie Hunt, 200-meter dash, 30.11 and 400-meter dash, 1:08
•Sara Hammonds, 200-meter hurdles, 55.32
•Caitlyn Young, 100-meter dash, 14.44
Fourth place finishers for the Lady Cougars included:
•Mallory Boyd, 3,200-meter run, 20:56
•Whitaker, high jump, 4-6
•Bradford, 100-meter dash, 14.48
also earned fifth in the 800-meter run (3:30) and Gracie Black took fifth in the 1,600-meter run (7:57). The Lady Cougar 4×100-meter relay team was fifth in 58.34.
The Piedmont boys 4×100-meter relay team was second in 48.19.
Also for the Piedmont boys, Michael Edwards was third in the long jump (18-6.5) and Chandler Burrell was third in the 400-meter dash (1:01).
J.T. Webb earned fourth in the 200-meter dash (27.43) while teammate Owen Mack Brady fifth in 27.62.
Mack Brady was fourth in the 1,600-meter run in 5:49. Noah Quick earned fourth in the 100-meter dash (12.19) just edging teammate Ben Davis who earned fifth with a time of 12.2.
Zach Wilson was fourth in the discus with a throw of 88-4. Also in the field events, Webb was fifth in the shot put at 33-5.
Browning Benton was sixth in the both the long jump (14-0) and the 100-meter hurdles (27.5).
In distance running, Burrell was sixth in the 1,600-meter run in 6:30.
