Varsity Canes Are 3-0 in Region
The Monticello Hurricanes are 3-0 in the region after defeating Macon County 6-5 in a close match-up Tuesday afternoon. The Hurricanes also defeated region rival Putnam County 15-8 Friday night after posting a 5-0 win over Oglethorpe County last Thursday.
The Hurricanes’ two losses in the last week came from non-region opponents Upson-Lee and Strong Rock.
“I think the Upson-Lee game opened our eyes a little bit,” Head Coach Chris Jenkins said. “They exposed some of the areas we really needed to improve upon. Fortunately we were able to work on some of those things before the Oglethorpe game. That was an all-around, solid performance against a good ball club.”
Senior Cain Gonzales “gave us a great performance on the mound. He threw a ton of strikes which kept the defense in the game behind him. Offensively, we’re doing the little things that it takes to win close games and games against good teams. Hopefully we can continue that,” Coach Jenkins said.
The Hurricanes were scheduled to travel to Oglethorpe County Wednesday, then will host region foe Crawford County Friday at 5 p.m. at Hurricane Field.
The Hurricane Baseball Alumni Game will be held Saturday, March 19, at 11 a.m. at Hurricane Field.
