Diamond Canes Post Two Wins

The Monticello Hurricanes posted two more marks in the win column with a 3-2 victory over Social Circle last Wednesday and a 13-1 region win over Northeast Macon Tuesday.

Senior Cain Gonzalez was on the mound for the Canes against Social Circle and gave another solid pitching performance, with the defense making some nice plays behind him, according to head coach Chris Jenkins.

“This was a good win against a good team,” Coach Jenkins said. “This was a nice bounce back win for us not only because we lost to them the first week of the season, but also because of the tough loss to Lamar the day before. I was pleased with how we responded.”

In the region win over Northeast, Coach Jenkins said, “Senior Garrett Scroggs kept up our streak of good pitching performances. This was the third game in a row that we’ve allowed two runs or less.

Offensively, we seem to be getting back on track after struggling at the plate for a couple of games.”

The Diamond Canes were scheduled to face region opponent Bleckley County in Cochran on Wednesday and will travel to Macon Friday to face Stratford Academy.

Then next week, the Hurricanes will host Macon County Monday, April 4, at 5 p.m., then will travel to Putnam on Tuesday for a 5 p.m. first pitch. Both of these are region games.
