Diamond Cougars Look To Season’s Final Stretch

Piedmont Academy’s varsity baseball team is enjoying a few days off from competition due to spring break.

The Diamond Cougars are currently 9-5 overall and are 4-0 in GISA Region 4-AA. Piedmont will return to action on Monday, April 11, against non-region foe John Milledge, on the road, before returning to region action next Tuesday against Windsor Academy in Macon.

“I think the team is progressing well,” said coach Daniel Funt. “We have been playing a lot so I know the players need a break. We know what we need to work on, but things are starting to take shape.”

Piedmont, the two-time defending GISA Class AA state baseball champion, would like to enter the postseason as a No. 1 seed.

“Our pitching and situational batting has improved,” Funt said. “Our defense has been solid, but we are still looking to improve there as well. We are off to a good start in region play as well. When we get back from the break, we will have a few practices to work on those things and then we will get back at it with games. We have two region games next week that we need to get.”

The Cougars will also host region foe Briarwood Academy on Thursday, April 14. This game will also be Senior Night
