Lady Cougars Soccer Team Earns Victories

The Piedmont Academy Lady Cougars soccer team posted an impressive 8-0 victory against Providence Christian last Friday.

Amelia Dodson and Rebecca Hopper both scored two goals while Caitlyn Young, Mattie Johnston, Alexis Dodson and Sydney Davis each scored one.

The win helped the team bounce back from an overtime loss to Monsignor Donovan the previous day. The Lady Cougars and Lady Rams were tied 2-2 when the match was decided on penalty kicks.

Maddie Mooneyham and Haley Tyler scored goals for Piedmont. Despite the loss, coach Zach Norris said the girls “played well the whole game.”

Piedmont’s varsity boys soccer team fell 4-0 to Monsignor Donovan and 10-0 to Providence Christian. Despite the loss to Monsignor Donovan, Norris said the boys played one of their better matches of the season.

The Piedmont varsity teams traveled to Westfield Monday to complete matches that were postponed from earlier in the season. The Lady Cougars earned a 4-0 victory as Amelia Dodson scored a hat trick and Tyler added another goal. The varsity boys were defeated 11-0 by Westfield.

In other soccer action, the Middle School Lady Cougars earned 2-2 tie against Gatewood Tuesday afternoon.
