Shiloh Knights Split Action

Shiloh Christian Academy’s varsity baseball team split two games last week as the Knights continue their 2016 season. They have a current season record of 3-4.

The squad played twice on the road last week looking to bounce back after a few tough losses.On March 29 the squad hosted Covington Academy. Caleb Dinn went 3-3 at the plate as the Knights earned a 3-1 victory over the Bulldogs in seven innings. Dinn singled in the first, third, and fifth innings. Caleb Compton handled Covington Academy’s lineup with ease, racking up 11 strikeouts. Compton allowed one earned run on one hit and four walks over four innings.

The Knights never surrendered the lead after the first inning, scoring two runs on an RBI single by Parker Wyatt. The fifth inning saw Covington Academy score its only run on the day on an RBI single by #4. The Knights scored one run of its own in the fifth with an RBI double by Wyatt.

On April 12, some hot bats from the Knights weren’t enough against the region leading Westminster Lions as the Knights traveled to Watkinsville. Eleven hits weren’t enough for the Knights who lost 19-8 in a seven inning shoot out to Westminster Christian Academy.

The Knights were led by a flawless day at the dish by Sam Filkins, who went 3-3 against the Lions pitching. He singled in the third, fifth, and seventh innings. However the Lions easily handled the Knights’ pitching as seven hitters combined for 19 hits, 17 RBIs and 16 runs scored. The Knights rebounded with a strong inning with two runs scoring on an error and an RBI single by Justin Nelson.

The Knights survived the surge and put up four runs in the third, scoring on a two-run single by Filkins, an RBI single by Nathan Crawford, and an error. Westminster didn’t relinquish the lead after scoring six runs in the fourth inning when it scored on an RBI double, two singles, and a three-run triple. A one-run sixth inning helped bring the Knights within three. A steal of home by Caleb Dinn sparked a Knights’ rally. Nelson struck out to end the Knights’ threat.

Westminster Christian Academy built upon its lead with nine runs in the seventh.

Knights scored one run in the bottom of the seventh to cut its deficit to 11. A groundout by Hunter Howard triggered Knights’ comeback. The game went final when Micah Compton flew out.

Last Friday, the Knights handled with ease Miller’s Military Academy for the second time this season. The Knights jumped out to an early lead and captured a 22-6 victory. Twenty-two runs in the first three innings allowed Knights to put the game away early—a three-run triple by Nelson; RBI single by Filkins; RBI single by Compton; a two-run single by Nelson; RBI single by Filkins; RBI double by Hunter Howard; a wild pitch; two-run home run by Dinn; and an RBI double by Compton.

Dinn racked up three RBIs on three hits for the Knights who easily handled Millers Military pitching as six hitters combined for 17 hits, 17 RBIs and 17 runs scored.
