Cougars Win Again in Region
It was another region contest and another victory for Piedmont Academy’s varsity baseball team last week against Briarwood Academy.
The Cougars recorded an 11-0 home Region 4-AA win as Michael Edwards, Brock Carter and Zach Wilson each had two hits. Edwards earned the win working all five innings and striking out seven. He gave up just two hits.
Edwards was 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs and RBI while Wilson was 2-for-3 with a run and RBI. Carter finished 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.
Mack Brady (1-for-3), Noah Quick (one run), Wyatt Galloway (1-for-3, one run and one RBI) and Alan Powell (1-for-2 with two RBI) also contributed offensively.
Last Thursday’s win improved Piedmont to 6-0 in region play.
The Cougars defeated non-region opponent Central Fellowship 7-6 on the road Monday as Brady earned the win working four innings and striking out five batters. Galloway picked the save after pitching the final three innings.
Carter was 3-for-4 at the plate with a run and two RBI. Jay Sheet was 2-for-4 and drove in two runs while Wilson was 1-for-4 with two RBI. Galloway finished 2-for-3 with a run.
Piedmont led 3-0 after the top of the fourth inning but Central Fellowship scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the a one-run lead. The Cougars would scored two runs in the top of the fifth and added another run in the seventh. Piedmont left six runners stranded on base.
Piedmont has a key region game Friday against Brentwood at home beginning at 4:30 p.m. The Eagles have only one region loss this season.
