Miss Rosa Lee Broddus
A celebration of life for Miss Rosa Lee Broddus was held on Monday, April 25, 2016 at Sardis C.M.E. Church, Hwy 11 North in Monticello. Rev. Arthur Goodman, pastor and Rev. Jerry L. Williams delivered the eulogy. Burial was at Sardis Cemetery.
Miss Broddus was born to. Edd Broddus and Mrs. Sophia Epps Broddus on March 21, 1921 at home in Monticello. She was the youngest of four girls. Miss Broddus joined Sardis C.M.E. Church and was baptized at the age of eight years old. She attended Sardis School and Jasper County Training School in Monticello. She often stated that she taught school in the mornings, picked cotton in the afternoon and attended Fort Valley State at night. She received her Teacher’s Certificate in 1955.
Miss Broddus taught school at Shady Grove School, then she taught in Shady Dale Church before coming to Monticello to teach at Jasper County Training School where she taught first grade. After retiring from full time teaching, she continued to work as a substitute teacher in the elementary school. Miss Broddus spent over 45 years educating young people in Jasper County.
She enjoyed spending time with her immediate family and some friends. She was a caretaker for many of her family members in their home for many years while holding a full time teaching job.
Miss Broddus was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters (Mrs. Sally B. Hill, Mrs. Emma J. Jones and Mrs. Celia B. Kelly).
Miss Broddus is survived by one nephew, Eddie Roy Jones (Wally) from White Plains, NY, two great nieces, Kim and Kyra and a host of other relatives. Miss Broddus found special trust in Kim McMichael, Jerry Williams and Ulysses Carter.
