Men Are Arrested for Sex Crimes

Robert Mackenzie Iacopelli, 23, of Covington, was arrested Tuesday in Monticello because he drove to Jasper County with the intention of meeting a 14-year-old girl for sexual contact, according to information from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO).

The JCSO is part of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the 14 year old girl was an undercover officer. Iacopelli is charged obscene telephone contact, criminal attempt to commit child molestation, and obscene internet contact.

Also on Tuesday, Charles Lee Victrum, 45, of Shady Dale, was arrested by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, and charged with the following offenses: child molestation, aggravated assault (family violence), cruelty to children in the third degree and possession of methamphetamine. Victrum is currently a registered sex offender in Jasper County.

James Thomas Russell, 20, also of Shady Dale, was arrested by the JCSO and charged with statutory rape.

Other people arrested in the last week, and their charges, include:

•Patricia Ann Mize, 32, Gray—Jasper County Superior Court bench warrant.

•Randy Eugene Hall, Sr., 50, Monticello—battery and parole violation.

•Ardrecus Rashard Banks, 35, Monticello—probation violation.

•Matthew Guy Stephenson, 31, Monticello—burglary.

•James Thomas Russell, Jr., 20, Shady Dale—obstruction of a law enforcement officer.

•Amy Diane Hart, 44, Eatonton—theft by taking.

•Christopher Todd Austin, 26, Hampton—disorderly conduct (three counts).

•Chase Hayward Helms, 19, McDonough—disorderly conduct (two counts).

•Randall Craig Hegwood, 35, Monroe—cruelty to children and battery.

•Alvin Norman Brooks, 59, Newborn—operation of commercial vehicle without valid license.

•Phillip Michael Clegg, 29, Monticello—battery.

Also, during the last week, deputies responded to many calls, and investigated numerous incidents.

A motorcycle was reported stolen from an address on Jasper Street, and electronics and guns were taken from a residence on Hwy. 16 west. A goat was reported stolen from Lakeview Marina, and a crossbow was taken from an address on Hwy. 83 north.

There was a reported of fraudulent telephone solicitation and one of financial transaction card fraud. Cash and a check were reportedly taken from an address on Bethel Church Road.

Perpetrators were caught in at least two thefts—cash from Hooper Trailer Sales and computer equipment from Jasper County High School.

In all, 911 operators handled some 455 calls for the sheriff’s department during the previous week.
