Marvin Wayne McDonald
Marvin Wayne McDonald, age 78, of Monticello, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2016, at his residence.
Wayne McDonald was born on September 3, 1937, to the late Herbert Austin McDonald and Ethel Woodard McDonald in Moultrie. He was raised in Americus, and was all-state in baseball and football in high school. He graduated from Georgia Tech and lettered in football and baseball. Before retirement, he worked in sales for Dexter Axle, Phillips Industries.
Wayne McDonald moved to Monticello over 40 years ago. He was a member of the Monticello Baptist Church and the Adult 4 Sunday School class. He was past chairman of the Jasper County Republican party, past president of the Hurricane Club and Cougar Club, active in Jaycees, and a member of the Cherokee Rose Group of Georgia Tech Alumni that met once a year.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Jeanette Cavender.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Marilyn Joyce Harper McDonald of Monticello; sons, Marty (Paula) McDonald of Americus, Mike (Trinity) McDonald of Greenville, and Matt (Jennifer) McDonald of McDonough; grandchildren, Geoffrey McDonald, Andrew McDonald, Josh (Amanda) McDonald, Casey McDonald, Brooke McDonald, and Taylor Grace McDonald; step-grandchildren, Savanna Williams and Christian Williams; great-granddaughter, Kenley McDonald, and sisters, Margie Trollinger of Dalton, and Lynda Holloway of Panama City.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, May 29, 2016, at 4 p.m. at the Monticello Baptist Church. Dr. Bob Whitmire will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 3 until 4 p.m., Sunday, prior to the service at the Monticello Baptist Church.
