No One Attends City Budget Hearing
No taxpayers from the City of Monticello, with the exception of this reporter were present at Monday’s called meeting and public hearing of the FY17 budget.
Council members had a regular meeting beginning at 6 p.m. and immediately went into executive session to discuss land acquisition with David Dyer, Director of the Development Authority of Jasper County.
After the executive session, which lasted the hour, the council members opened the meeting for the public hearing. Mayor Bryan Standifer asked if any of the council had questions and stated that in regards to the budget, “the council has not had to raise taxes for the last eight or nine years.” Stone Workman, Mayor Pro-tem commented, “with the property values increased, that is good for the city and the millage rate will stay the same.
The council will vote to approve the final FY17 budget at their regular meeting Tuesday, June 14 at 7 p.m.
