KIWANIS SUPPORTS CHILDREN

The Monticello Kiwanis Club Monday presented checks to the organizations that it supports throughout the year. The Kiwanis Club is a service organization dedicated to the children of our community and the children of the world.

Locally, the club supports many children’s activities. Those receiving checks, and the who they represent included (left to right) Kasey Hall, Jasper County 4-H, Peyton Proctor, who accepted the checks for the art and music programs at all the public schools, Tony Tanner, Piedmont Academy, Morad El-Jourbagy, Kiwanis president who accepted for the Mentor Program, Mary Lou Jordan, the ML&J Fund, Liz Caldwell, U.S. Forest Service kids’ fishing rodeo; Tamala Alexander, Jasper County Library; Thomas Dozier, U.S. Forest Service, Angie Steele, Family Connection and Norma Mattison, Project Linus.

In making the presentations, Mr. El-Jourbagy told a little about each organization and some of the recipients elaborated further. The Kiwanis Club hosts the Venison Cook-off at the Deer Festival, a pancake breakfast in January, and the art and music showcase in the spring. The group meets the second and fourth Monday of each month at noon at Monticello First United Methodist Church.
