Sam Greer Jackson
Sam Greer Jackson was born on October 31, 1941 in Jasper County to the late Carthis and Annie Lee Jackson.
He joined Freedonia A.M.E. Church in 1976 and was the church’s custodian for several years. He attended Sardis School until the rural schools were closed in 1952. Sam transferred to Jasper County Training School. He retired from farming after working for many years.
He loved farm-work most of all, he loved working and planting vegetable gardens. He enjoyed sitting on the porch chewing tobacco. Sam’s porch partners were Rudolph Clemons and Mary Jo Pope. Sam loved his nieces and nephews, and talking with friends. Sam was admired by all the people he met.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Ruth Ridley; brothers-in-law, Willie Johnson, Leroy Johnson and Johnny Johnson; and two sisters-in-law, Francine Johnson and Ella Gordon.
Sam leaves to cherish his memories; his loving wife of 50 years, Frances Johnson Jackson of Monticello; brothers: W.C. Jackson (Annie Florence) of Monticello, James Jackson (Annie Lou) of Newborn, and Johnny Jackson of Covington; a sister, Annie Lee Thomas of Covington; brothers-in-law: Carl Johnson of Harford CT, Gus Johnson of Atlanta, and Willie B. Card; sisters-in-law, Dorothy F. Johnson of Monticello, Iva Card of Monticello, Sally Johnson of Bloomfield, CT, Willie Mae Johnson of Atlanta, and Lillie M. Johnson of Connecticut. Also, a host of other family and friends.
