Garrett Scroggs Is Positive Athlete

Garrett Scroggs, a 2016 graduate of Jasper County High School, was recently named one of the “Top Ten Most Positive High School Athletes” in Middle Georgia by the Positive Athlete Georgia Program.

Garrett was nominated by head football coach and athletic director Doug Huff as a positive athlete and role model from JCHS.

Positive Athlete Georgia is a movement by high-character professional athletes tied to Georgia professional and collegiate sports teams to promote the benefits of “positivity” to young athletes.

Current and former professional athletes are members of this organization, and high school athletes are invited to join based on being nominated by a coach for the annual awards. This year, more than 3,400 student-athletes and coaches were nominated with about 275 of those nominees recognized as a regional winner.

Eight new regions were added to the program this year including the Middle Georgia Region of which Garrett was named to the Top Ten. His award stated that he is “a role model in his school and embodies the seven definitions of a positive athlete.”

The tenets of a positive athlete include optimistic attitude, heart for others, encouraging a teammate, admits imperfections, puts team first, servant leader and always give 100%. The award was presented by Scott Pederson, President and CEO of Positive Athlete Georgia, and Hines Ward, Lead Athlete for the organization.

Garrett is a lifelong resident of Jasper County. He was a leader on the Hurricane football and baseball teams and was an honor and Beta graduate. He was also a member of FFA, FBLA, Beta Club, and the National Technical Honor Society. He is an active member of Monticello Baptist Church.

Garrett is the son of Gary and Amy Scroggs, and the grandson of Jimmy and Lynda Sue McMichael, also of Monticello, and Dorothy Scroggs of Cumming. Garrett plans to attend Georgia Military College in August.
