Japeth Harvey “J. H.” Jackson

Japeth Harvey “J. H.” Jackson, age 92, of Monticello, passed away Friday, July 15, 2016, at the Eternal Hope Hospice-Hope House in Griffin.

J. H. Jackson was born in Forsyth, Ga., to the late Howard Newton Jackson and Mamye Lucille Waits Jackson. He attended school in Hillsboro. His family moved to Atlanta in the late 1930s, and he worked alongside his father and brother for years at their sawmill.

Mr. Jackson, his father and brother started developing subdivisions and building homes; and in the 1960s, they started the Jackson Concrete Company. He returned to the residential development and construction in the 1970s and continued until he was in his 80’s.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman; and loved the outdoors. He loved working in his yard and tending to flowers.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Robert Carmichael; and brother, Howard Newton Jackson, Jr.

He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Clara Mae Moultrie Jackson of Monticello; children, Michael and Janette Jackson of Barnesville, Susan and James Maloy of Steinhatchee, Fla., Debbie Carmichael of Locust Grove, and Howard and Terri Jackson of Zebulon; grandchildren, Debbie Ray, Mark Brooks, Ginger Jackson, Tracy Taylor, Abby Maloy, Angela Goetz, Matthew Goetz, Derek Jackson, Nick Jackson, Bailey Fleming, and Nick Nieves; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 18, 2016, at the Monticello Baptist Church. Interment will be held in College Park Cemetery in College Park. Dr. Robert Whitmire will officiate.

Serving as pallbearers will be James Maloy, Derek Jackson, Nick Jackson, Nick Nieves, Mark Brooks and Allen Fitzgerald.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 11 a.m., Monday, July 18, 2016, at the Monticello Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
