United We Stand

In the book of Exodus, we read about Israel’s success in battle whenever Moses lifted his hands high; when he lowered his hands, the battle did not go in favor of Israel. Moses spent a lot of time with his hands held high. To help Moses with this task, Aaron and Hur stood on the sides of him in helping to keep his hands held high. Israel succeeded because of team work.

Later on in Exodus, we read about the father-in-law of Moses, Jethro, telling Moses that he had to rethink the way he was going about the work of God. Jethro knew at the pace Moses kept he would wear out, or as we say today, burn out. Jethro recognized that God’s work must be done as a team, not solo.

There are a lot of churches seeking to do the work of the Lord. It could be the work of the pastor that is making the church grow and reach out; it could be the work of the membership making the church grow and reach out.

In an ideal setting, it would be the work of the pastor and the membership making the church grow and reach out more. Team work helps keep all from burning out when doing the Lord’s work. It is simple team work which will make our churches, our communities, our states and our nation stronger.

If you are a Christian, I encourage you to pray. Pray daily for all facets of life. We need to be praying for our nation, but we also need to be praying for more peace around the world. We need to be praying for our government leaders, but also praying for moral and decent leaders around the globe. We need to be praying for stronger preachers and churches in our nation, but also for stronger preachers and churches world-wide.

If you are a Christian, I encourage you to get involved. There is so much that we can do in volunteering to help others in need. Yes, one of us can make a difference, but many of us can make a dramatic difference in the lives of others. Look around. Somewhere around you this day you will see someone in need—a poor person, a lost person, a forgotten person, a hurting person. You and/or several others could make a big difference in this person’s life. Make a difference. Get involved.

Finally, if you are a Christian, I encourage you to remember these words and to place them into your heart, mind and spirit, as you go through this day and the days ahead.

Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrong but rejoices in the right. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things.

Love can and will help us heal the hurt and hate that so many have in their lives today. United we stand. Divided we fall. It is our choice what kind of a world we give our children for their tomorrows.
