Lady Hurricanes Prepare for Softball Season

The Lady Hurricanes varsity softball squad has begun preparations for its upcoming season.

Veteran head coach Chris Jenkins is quite excited about the new season.

“We didn’t graduate anybody off of last year’s team, so we will be looking to build on the success we had and take the next step.”

This year’s squad includes lone senior Shianne Reed; three juniors Jesse Caron, Lauren Mosley, O’Neil Sealy; six sophomores MacKenzie Abbott, Madison Abbott, Mia Jenkins, Lacey Rutledge, MacKenzie Tripp, Kaitlyn Wilbanks; and five freshmen, Taylor Bloodworth, Ella Noonan, Sabrah Russom, Alicia Tripp, and Makayla Wages.

The ladies recently attended summer camp at Mary Persons High School in Forsyth. They played six games over a two day period.

Coach Jenkins said, ”I’ve always enjoyed going out there because you see good competition, and it allows us to see what areas we need to work on or emphasize. Then it gives us a couple of weeks of practice to correct those before the regular season starts.”

The squad has a soft season opening with a scrimmage at Georgia Military College (GMC) in Milledgeville next Tuesday, August 2 beginning at 5 p.m. The first regular season competition will follow a week from Tuesday with a home contest hosting Houston County.
