Mrs. Emma Lou Conwell
Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Lou Conwell, who died July 27, 2016, are scheduled today, August 4, at 1 p.m., at Springfield Missionary Baptist Church, 837 Hillsobor St., Monticello. Rev. Dr. Jimmy Horton will officiate; burial is in Kings Chapel Cemetery in Hillsboro.
Mrs. Conwell was born on January 16, 1932, to John and Becky Lou Thomas of Hillsboro. She attended the Jasper County School System until she stopped early to support her siblings. A mother of 13, she also helped to raise many others.
Mrs. Conwell joined King’s Chapel and later attended the Monticello Church of Christ. She loved life and always had a smile for everyone.
Mrs. Conwell was preceded in death by her parents, John and Becky Lou Thomas; sons, Robert Louis Smith, Mohn Smith and Willie Paul Smith; daughters, Brenda Nel Thomas and Brenda Star; brother, Frank Thomas; four sisters, Mamie Bland, Gladys Thomas, Annie Johnson and Kate Lane, and brother-in-law, Claude Irons.
Her memory will be cherished by her four sons, David Smith (Jan) of Covington; Michael Thomas of Fort Myers, Fla., Timothy Conwell (Nellie) of Forsyth and Ricky Akins (Wanda) of Jackson; five daughters, Mary Johnson (Milton), Marie Irons of Fort Myers, Fla., Dorothy Clark, Becky Smith, both of Monticello, and Penny Clark of Conyers; two sisters, Geneva Digby and Minnie Thomas of Monticello; three brothers, Jimmy L. Thomas and Evan Chatman of Monticello; Robert L. Thomas of Eastman; mother-in-law, Mrs. Lillie Mae Denson of Jackson; two brothers-in-law, Samuel (Wilene) Denson of Jackson and C.D. Denson of Jenkinsburg; three sisters-in-law, Agnes Watson of Flovilla, Ida Chambliss and Lawrette Grier, both of Jackson; 32 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and a ost of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
