James Luke ‘J.L.’ Lane
James Luke “J. L.” Lane, III, of Eatonton, formerly of Monticello, passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2016, at Oconee Regional Medical Center in Milledgeville.
J. L. Lane was born in Monticello to the late James Luke Lane, Jr. and Emmie Thompson Lane. He graduated from Monticello High School in 1954; and lived in Monticello until moving to Eatonton in 1982. He was a member of the Monticello Baptist Church and attended Marshall Memorial Baptist Church in Eatonton.
Mr. Lane previously worked for the Yancey Brothers Heavy Equipment Company and formerly owned and operated Lane’s Tractor Service. He retired as a mechanic from the Putnam County Transportation Department in Eatonton.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Emmie Lane Singletary and Ann Lane Moore.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Hawkins Lane of Eatonton; children, Patti Lane (John) Dyer of Warner Robins, Karen (Eddie) Green of Lizella, Mary Ann Lane of Lizella, Jim (Sandra) Lane of Bonaire, and Marcia (Kenneth) Mason of Monticello; grandchildren, Kacie Davis, Michelle Baker, John McCoy, III, Mary Beth Broughton, Michael Lane, Travis Lane, Anna Lane, Sarah Beth Lane, Ken Mason, Jr. and Kahle Mason; a number of great grandchildren; and sisters, Jean McLees of Jacksonville, Fla., and Marguerite Powell of Birmingham, Ala.
Funeral services will be held at noon, Thursday, September 1, 2016, at the Chapel of Jordan Funeral Home. Interment will be held in West View Cemetery. Brother James Smith, Brother Jim Lane and Brother Michael Lane will officiate.
Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon, one hour prior to the service, Thursday, September 1, 2016, at Jordan Funeral Home.
