DeGarmos Will Appear On Television

Drs. John and Kelly DeGarmo will appear on Good Morning America sometime in the next few days.

The producers could not give them a firm date in time for this edition of The Monticello News, but expect it to be today, Sept. 1, Friday, Sept. 2, or Monday, Sept. 5.

A California producer from the show contacted the DeGarmos some time ago to hear about their story of fostering some 50 children over the past 14 years, and their efforts to get the Never Too Late foster home for boys up and running.

Award winning ABC news journalist Juju Chang came to Monticello, and interviewed the DeGarmos. She visited with them at the Never Too Late home and then at the DeGarmo home. She also talked to State Rep. Susan Holmes about the DeGarmos.

Ms. Chang interviewed all of the DeGarmo family trying to learn what it’s like to be a foster family.

John DeGarmo is an author, consultant, speaker, trainer and foster parent. He and his wife, Kelly, as well as their children have taken in some 50 foster children over the past 14 years, and they have adopted two of those children.

Realizing the need, John DeGarmo began efforts to open a group home for foster boys, ages 11-18. A foundation was formed, and the board of directors has raised the money to purchase Edgewood, previously an assisted living home, to be used for the purpose.

Much money was raised to purchase the home, and then for renovations. Lowe’s stores also helped with the renovations. The home could open before the end of this year, and will serve boys from Jasper and surrounding counties.
