Shiloh Christian Begins Volleyball Season
The Shiloh Christian Academy’s varsity volleyball team kicked off its season recently with two matches.
The season opener on August 16 had the Lady Knights hosting the John Hancock Academy Rebels of Sparta. The 4:30 p.m. start brought lots of eager fans looking forward to the season and action in a best of five match.
Game one was tough for the Knights as they got a slow start to the match losing 25-7. However, the Knights responded with back to back wins in games two and three looking for the win as they led in the fourth match. However, the Lady Knights let a game four lead slip away losing 25-21. The Rebels made sure that their mid-game slump was over, taking game five and the match from the Knights.
Scoring leaders against the Rebels were McKenzie Tolbert, Anna Dinn, and Olivia Troutman with combined 41 points.
Last Thursday, the Knights were on the road looking for their first region win against the Providence Academy Warriors of Oxford. The tough opener against the Rebels gave the Lady Knights the needed confidence against the older and more experienced Warriors. Game one the Warriors took an early lead 7-0. Despite strong defense play by Lindsey Thomas and Elizabeth Curtis, the Lady Knights were unable to gain a lead in the match. The Warriors took the first region match of the season in three straight games.
Head Coach Angie Troutman said “I understand our youth at the varsity level and anticipated some tough matches early on but I’m so pleased with the intensity and maturity the girls have shown so far. Their hard work over the summer is paying off already.”
Knights leaders against the Warriors were Dinn and Tolbert with a combined 17 points. The Lady Knights will host Arlington Christian Academy and Hope Academy this week. Schedules and information about the Shiloh Knights Athletics can be viewed at www.shiloh-knights.com.
