Mrs. Shirley Hobby
Mrs. Shirley Hobby, 79 of Milledgeville passed away peacefully on Thursday September 15, 2016 at Oconee Regional Medical Center following a period of illness.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, Sept. 18, at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Moores Funeral Home with Dr. Milton Snyder and Rev. Rob Hobby officiating. The family will visit with friends immediately following the service.
Mrs. Hobby was raised as the only child of Ralph and Helen Harden and spent her formative years living in Macon. She attended Mercer University where she met and later married her beloved husband Frank. Together they raised six children and were married 49 years before Mr. Hobby’s death in 2005.
After completing her studies at Georgia College, Mrs. Hobby taught in the Baldwin County Public Schools for 30 years first as an elementary school teacher and later as a teacher of the gifted. She was active in her profession and was among the founding members of the Professional Association of Georgia Educators. She also served a term as that organizations statewide president.
Mrs. Hobby was an active member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She also loved the company of her bridge group and cherished the friendships she shared with the ladies who made up the group.
Mrs. Hobby is survived by her children Mark Hobby of Milledgeville, Ronda Hobby of Watkinsville, Melissa Hobby of Macon, Jennifer Hobby of Milledgeville and Chris Hobby (Anne) of Bainbridge. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Andy Schmidth of Marietta, Elizabeth Hobby of Monticello, Katie Griffis, Stephen Griffis, and Ian Walker of Watkinsville, Sarah and Michael Hobby of Bainbridge,Lawson Hobby of Milledgeville and Lanier Hobby of Maryland.
Mrs. Hobby was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Frank, her son Lawson and her grandson Jonathan.
