Novice Wins Football Contest

TONY LEWIS (L), DEASIA COLLIER

Deasia Collier, a tenth grader at Jasper County High School, was one of three contest players to correctly guess the winners in 13 of the games listed in last week’s contest.

For her effort, she picked up a $25 prize from Tony Lewis at Lewis & Malone Heating & Air. Deasia guessed 19 points would be scored in Piedmont’s 8-6 loss to Brentwood.

It was the sophomore’s first time ever playing the contest, and she beat out more than 100 others, including family members.

Also guessing the winner of 13 games listed, but further off the tie-breaker were Janet Davis and Tracey Nelson. They will have their names added to the grand prize honor roll for a chance to win a premium ticket package to the Chick-Fil-A/Peach Bowl in Atlanta.

Getting 12 right and also making honor roll were Stephanie Pittman and Chris Pittman. No other players correctly guessed the winner in as many as 12 games listed.

Deasia’s luck shows that you don’t have to be a veteran player to win the contest. You just have to enter. You might be lucky or you might be knowledgeable….considering there is no guarantee the favorite will win.

This week another player, novice or veteran, will collect a $25 prize from Monticello Drugs/Dana Leach Realty, sponsors of the week.

All you have to do is enter. And you can enter in person, by fax or by e-mail. Full contest rules are on page 11. Remember to write legibly, and submit your entry no later than 5 p.m. tomorrow, Sept. 30. Good Luck!
