PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE

Students at Jasper County High School use the construction of the new multi-purpose building as a learning experience. Principal Camille Murner and Facilities Director Perry Hyde meet with a group of students on a weekly basis to integrate math and science skills learned in the classroom to practical work experiences.
Principal Murner says, “Several of these students have shown in interest in engineering and all have seen a practical application to what they have learned in the classroom.” At various stages of construction, Mr. Hyde discusses the construction process and importance of following the engineering plans that guide the process.
This past week, many of the steel beams were raised and the masonry crew is beginning to lay block. Construction continues and the students are using this process to enhance classroom instruction. In the photo above, Mr. Hyde discusses the construction of the building foundation and pouring of the concrete with the students on site.
