MS Lady Cougars Are Runners-Up

The Piedmont Academy Middle School softball team concluded its 2016 season Saturday earning a runner-up trophy at the GISA End-Of-Season Tournament.

The all-day event was held at the Baldwin County Recreation Fields in Milledgeville. The Lady Cougars fell in the final game by a run in extra innings.

Piedmont defeated Robert Toombs 10-4 in one matchup Saturday as Fleming Sealy earned the win, working four innings while allowing three earned runs and striking out six.

Offensively, Hannah Tyler was an impressive 4-for-4 with two runs and RBI while Maddie Waddelton was 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Sealy was 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs while Emily McEwen finished 3-for-3 with a run and two RBI. Abby Arnold was 1-for-2 with a run and Sydney Stroud scored two runs.

The Middle School Lady Cougars also defeated Brentwood 4-3 as Sealy once again earned the win striking out nine.

Tyler was 2-for-3 with a run while Sealy was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. McEwen, MaLynne Webb and Rebekah Hicks were all 1-for-2. Webb and McEwen both drove in runs.

Piedmont and Robert Toombs would meet again, this time with the Lady Cougars falling 11-4. Waddleton was 2-for-3 at the plate as was McEwen, who also drove in a run and scored one.

Tyler was 1-for-3 with a run and Harris Brady finished 1-for-2.

Robert Toombs scored five runs in the top of the third to provide some separation in the game.

With both teams having a win against the other, Piedmont and Robert Toombs played a third time. Despite several strong efforts, the Lady Cougars ultimately fell 9-8 in eight innings.

Sealy was 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs and RBI while Waddleton finished 2-for-4 with a run and RBI. McEwen was 2-for-4 with two runs with Webb having a 2-for-4 game with a run and RBI.
