50th Annual Deer Festival Is Saturday

The 50th annual Deer Festival will be held this Saturday, Nov. 5, with the Fun Run beginning at 7:30 a.m., and the 5K starting at 8 a.m. Entertainment begins at 8:30 a.m., with the National Anthem, flag raising and invocation coming before that. A full schedule of entertainment is on page 19D of the Deer Festival section.

Vendors will be set up ready to sell their wares no later than 9 a.m., and the fun begins. A full preview of this year’s festival is included in a section inside today’s paper. The old photo shows some Jasper County Jaycees, who began the Deer Festival in 1967, cooking the food for the festival many years ago. The News does not know what year it is or the people in it, so we would welcome that information from anyone who knows. It could be the same one Christ Bridges talks about in his column.

The other photo depicts what we celebrate—the whitetail deer. This year’s festival promises to be the best ever, with many added features, so everyone is encouraged to come out and take part in a fun filled day.
