Offenders Get Probation
Criminal jury trial week began in Jasper Superior Court on Monday however Judge Brenda Trammell presided over three bench trials and a handful of probation revocations.
James Randall Coles, Jr. and James Randall Coles, III were both charged with two counts of arson in the first degree for allegedly setting fire to a vehicle. James Jr. negotiated a plea to one count of arson in the second degree for which he received 10 years of probation and a $,1000 fine.
James, III had his charges reduced to the offense of criminal trespass with a one year probation term and a fine of $500. Both defendants were sentenced to pay off the car note of the vehicle destroyed by the fire.

Artagus Mohorne was sentenced to two years of probation for possession of cocaine as a repeat offender. He was fined $500.
Jonathan Maroney had his probation revoked to four years in the state penal system for violating previous probation terms. In April 2015, he committed the new offense of terroristic threats and acts in Newton County; in October 2014 he tested positive for drugs; and in November 2014 he changed his residence without prior permission from his probationer.
Morgan Thames was also given four years in the state penal system for violating several probation stipulations.
Byron Blankenship had 60 days of his probation revoked to the Jasper County jail for testing positive for methamphetamine and oxycodone.
Andre E. Prevost had 30 days of his probation revoked to the Jasper County jail for the new offense of possession of marijuana and possession of drug related objects in Gwinnett County. Also, failed to complete verifiable substance abuse treatment and complete community service hours.
