SANTA CLAUS IS COMING…CAME TO TOWN

The city of Monticello lit its Christmas tree Saturday culminating a day designed to “Shop Small” in Monticello. The Saturday after Thanksgiving for several years now has been promoted as Shop Small Saturday. Stores in Monticello and Jasper County took advantage of the day, offering special sales to customers, and encouraging Jasperites to stay home to shop, and inviting others to come to Jasper County and shop.

Santa was on the Square greeting children from 4 until 5 p.m. At 5 p.m., Deer Festival Queen Starr Batchelor entertained those who had gathered for the tree lighting with her rendition of Emmanuel, and Councilman David Wease welcomed the crowd, then lit the city’s Christmas tree.
