Varsity Cougars Enter Christmas Break

Piedmont Academy’s varsity basketball teams wrapped up the first portion of their 2016-2017 schedule last Saturday and now have several days off before returning to the court in January.

The Cougars and Lady Cougars traveled to McDonough to face Creekside with both teams facing tough opponents.

The Piedmont girls fell 37-25 despite eight points from Haley Ann Frank (one three-pointer) and five points by Madison McCart and Hailey Hooper. Both McCart and Hooper also made three-pointers.

Gracie Hunt added three points while Alexis Dodson and Sydney Stroud both finished with two points.

The game was close in the first half with Creekside leading 12-8 after the first quarter and 23-18 at halftime. Creekside had moved in front by 10 points after the third quarter.

In the boys game, Creekside rolled to 74-35 win jumping out to an early lead. Piedmont was led by Tate Marks who scored 12 points, including a three-pointer, and Sam Wright who finished with seven. Joseph Anderson added four points while Payton Wallace scored three. Dylan Coe, Caden Clark, Caleb Coffey and Jackson Waddleton each added two point for the Cougars.

Piedmont’s varsity basketball teams will return to action Tuesday, Jan. 3, at John Milledge Academy, beginning at 6 p.m.
