Canes Compete in Holiday Tourneys

The boys’ varsity Hurricane squad will wrap up action in the Henry Holiday tournament this week as the Lady Hurricanes prepare for the Mary Persons Holiday tournament next week.

The boys’ squad rebounded last weekend with wins over Elbert and Spalding counties after losses the previous week to Banks and Jones counties.

In their second region match-up of the season, the Canes defeated Elbert 64-45. Ashton Bonner led in scoring with 16 points while adding five assists and two steals. Matthew Lawson had 14 points and Malik Crawford had 10 points.

C.J. Adams led in rebounds with five and in assists with six, and in charges with two. Jakeir Stone added four rebounds and Rufus Whitlock added three.

In the 74-61 victory over Spalding, Bonner earned 27 points, six assists and two rebounds for which he was named Player of the Game. Gavin Sands added 16 points and two assists. Stone had eight points, seven rebounds, and two assists. Crawford and Lawson each had seven points while Crawford added eight rebounds, Lawson added four with three assists. Whitlock had six points and seven rebounds while Adams added three points and seven rebounds.

After the tournaments conclude, the varsity squads will return to regular action Tuesday, Jan. 3 at Oglethorpe.
