Joe José Deraney

Joe José Deraney, age 88, passed away Sunday, December 25, 2016, at Jasper Memorial Hospital.

José Deraney was born in San Cristobal, Cuba to the late Elias Deraney Numer and Maria Josefa Deraney y Deraney. In 1949, he left Cuba and moved to Georgia. He was of the Catholic religion.

José was an original member of the Jasper County Jaycees and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He worked for a number of years at the Monticello Manufacturing; and retired from the Georgia Pacific Plywood Plant.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, George Deraney and Antonio Deraney.

He is survived by his nephews, George (Lynn) Deraney of Monticello, José (Jacque) Deraney of Norcross, Louis (Isabel) Deraney of Flowery Branch, and Ariel (Brandie) Deraney of Monticello; great nephews and great nieces, Matthew Deraney, Brandon Deraney, Hope Deraney, Andrew Deraney, Michelle Deraney, Cesar Deraney, Max Deraney, Thomas Deraney and Belle Deraney; and brother and sister, Juan Deraney and Rosa Deraney of Cuba.

Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016, at the chapel of Jordan Funeral Home. Jim Mitchell will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 6 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016, at Jordan Funeral Home.
