Varsity Cougars Sweep Oak Mountain

Haley Ann Frank and Madison McCart both finished in double figures as the Piedmont Academy Lady Cougars defeated visiting Oak Mountain 44-32 last Friday.

Frank had three 3-pointers while McCart added one. Alexis Dodson finished with seven points while Hailey Hooper added five for the Lady Cougars.

Madison Burnham contributed three points and Deacon Robinson scored two in the win.

The Piedmont Academy varsity boys also defeated Oak Mountain 65-50 behind an impressive 24-point effort from Sam Wright. In the win, Wright had a balanced attack of two 3-pointers, five field goals and eight free throws.

Sam Younker (15 points) and J.T. Webb (11 points) also finished in double figures for the Cougars.

Chris McClain contributed nine points while Joseph Anderson, Tate Marks and Caleb Coffey each scored two.

Piedmont hosted Brentwood Tuesday with both varsity teams falling.

The Lady Cougars were defeated 54-26. Sydney Stround was the team’s top scorer with seven points while Haley Ann Frank added six. Ava Anglin finished with five points.

In the boys contest, the Cougars were defeated 66-58 in overtime despite 23 points by Wright, including three 3-pointers. Coffey and McClain both added eight points while Webb and Marks both finished with seven.

Piedmont’s varsity teams will travel to Windsor Academy in Macon on Friday for games beginning at 6 p.m. and to host Briarwood on Saturday beginning at 1:30 p.m. Both opponents will be against Region 4-AA opponents.
