Treat Others Like Jesus Would
Having grown up in the church I don’t think I have ever gone through a summer without singing at least once, “Jesus Loves Me.” Those of you who know this song are probably singing it to yourself now.
As I thought about this song, I did something that I occasionally do with a song; I take the music and add my own words to it in order to reflect on the original song and its meaning.
My version goes something like this. “Yes, no one loves me; yes, no one loves me; yes, no one loves me, their actions tell me so.”
Now, aren’t you glad that we have a wonderful Savior that loves us when no one else does? I know I do.
I’m proud to be a part of a church that demonstrates through their actions that they love others.
After the devastating tornadoes struck South Georgia on the 21st and 22nd of January my pastor rallied folks in the community and church to get supplies together for the victims. On Friday, the 24th, church members took a box truck and a pickup truck full of supplies to South Georgia. What a blessing to be a part of a church like this.
In the Bible in the book of James one can study about faith and deeds. While we all know that deeds do not save us, only Christ can do this, deeds (or works) do demonstrate what our faith leads us to do in the name of Jesus.
In the name of Jesus, we listen before we speak. In the name of Jesus, we don’t favor people because of what they have or where they live, work, or go to school. In the name of Jesus, we don’t speak words which destroy another person. In the name of Jesus, we are humble, not proud. In the name of Jesus, we don’t oppress others. In the name of Jesus we don’t ignore others and their hurts, pains and losses.
Verse 17 of James, chapter 3 sums it up like this, “But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.”
My prayer is simple – I pray that all of us who call ourselves Christian would seek our wisdom from above, not from this world.
God created and values you and me. We in turn, should value others.
May God give us the wisdom and strength to speak of others and treat others like Jesus would and does.
