BUILDING OPENS

Dr. Shannon Barton, chair of the Jasper County School Board, cuts the ribbon (above) for the new multi-purpose building at Jasper County High School (JCHS) Tuesday.
The building includes a large room for wrestling or competition cheerleading practice, as well as other school activities, and could be used by the public for various activities. Dr. Mike Newton, superintendent, welcomed the crowd gathered Tuesday for the ribbon cutting, and then they heard from Buddy Cain, assistant principal/athletics and Camille Murner, JCHS principal.
Pam Mayer, president of the Monticello-Jasper County Chamber of Commerce spoke briefly, and then the ribbon was cut. After the remarks, the crowd was invited to tour the facility and watch as youth worked out on the new weight equipment. Dr. Newton gave kudos to several people who helped with the project, with high praise for Perry Hyde, maintenance and facilities director who oversaw the project.
All members of the Board of Education were present as was Monticello Mayor Bryan Standifer and Mayor Pro-tem Stone Workman, County Commissioner Bruce Henry, County Manager Mike Benton, many members of the Chamber of Commerce board, and many others. Deer Festival Queen Starr Batchelor and Little Miss Fawn Aubrey Pope were also on hand for the festivities. (below, Coach Doug Huff instructs a student on the use of the new equipment).
