Canes Bound for Sweet Sixteen

Following last Friday’s 61-56 defeat of Therrell High School with home court advantage, the Hurricanes are on to the Sweet Sixteen Class AA round of the state playoffs.

The team will travel to Swainsboro High School today, Feb. 23 for a 6:30 p.m. tip-off. Swainsboro is the top ranked seed in the 2-AA region and will have homecourt advantage.

“Therrell was a tough opponent as I knew they would be,” said Coach William Thomas.

“Swainsboro will be even tougher. They’re a #1 seed playing in their own gym so we are preparing for a dog fight.”

A loss down south would end the Hurricanes’ 2016 season but a win takes us to the Elite Eight on Wednesday, March 1 when the Canes would face the winner of the Thomasville/Chattooga matchup.

Hurricane fans are encouraged to support the team in their advancement toward a state title for the third consecutive year.

The Canes fell in Swainsboro Thursday evening.
