Hurricanes Near Close of Regular Season

The Monticello Hurrricanes varsity baseball squad split action over the past week winning two and losing two.

The squad fell 8-0 to the Social Circle Redskins Tuesday. Braden Lynch pitched six innings earning six strikeouts.

Matthew Lawson had two hits and Hunter Duke had three quality at bats (QABs).

Last Thursday, the Canes fell 4-3 to Strong Rock in a non region contest.

Duke was on the mound with five strikeouts.

Jeff Cain had two hits and Jay Johnson had one.

Dylan Jackson, Johnson, Lynch each had one hit.

Johnson and Cain each had one RBI.

Josh Disharoon and Lynch each had two QABs.

The varsity squad turned in a huge 16-1 victory over region competitor Crawford County last Wednesday. The competition went four innings with 10 runs in the first for the Canes. Two runs were added in the second, three in the third, and one in the fourth. No errors were recorded for the squad.

Lynch was on the mound earning three strikeouts.

Lawson had three hits, Lynch had two and Jay Fleetwood had one.

Johnson, Tyler Wages and Lynch each had three RBIs.

Cain, Duke, and Lynch each had one walk. Johnson had three QABs, Cain and Lynch each added two.

Last Tuesday, the Canes defeated the Oglethorpe Patriots 5-4 in a region foray on the road. The squad got things started with three runs in the first inning, the most for both teams during any at-bat.

Jacob Parrish was on the mound for six innings and Braden Lynch for one.

Disharoon earned three walks and three quality at bats (QABs) while Lynch had two runs batted in (RBIs), two QABs, and a walk.

The Canes had five hits which resulted in five runs with only two errors. Whereas the Patriots made nine hits with only four runs and three errors.

The varsity squad will play during the school’s Spring Break next week hosting region opponent Crawford County on Monday, April 3 with a 1 p.m. contest before traveling to Eatonton to take on the Putnam County War Eagles on Tuesday, April 4 for a 5:30 p.m. region competition.

The Canes remaining three games will include only one region opponent as the squad looks forward to postseason action.
