‘Community Conversation’ Planned
Visions in Action (VIA) will host a “Community Conversation” dialogue on Saturday, April 8 beginning at 1 p.m. at St. James A.M.E. Church.
VIA in partnership with local individuals and organizations is sponsoring the meeting which is designed to increase the participation of parents, relatives and members of the community in the education of local children.
“It is important for parents to be active and visible advocates for their children. They must instill high expectations about academic performance and hold children accountable when they fail to meet expectations,” said VIA spokesperson Stephen Simmons.
“Our goal is to strengthen the cooperation among school leaders, teachers, students, parents and community members. The more effective the cooperation among these groups, the greater the impact on academic achievement.”
VIA is a non-profit organization established to encourage the development of a highly educated community whose residents value academic achievement, respect cultural differences, proactively establish effective education systems that reward personal responsibility and leadership, teach students basics early, and continually ignite student interest and sustain student motivation.
The organization’s goal is to serve as a catalyst for nurturing diverse individuals and organizations into a unified force for solving local business and social issues.
Everyone is encouraged to attend.
