Donahue ‘Scott’ Silvis

Donahue “Scott” Silvis, 53, of Milner, Ga., passed away on April 12, 2017.

He was born at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta on November 8, 1963, to the late Mary Anne Morgan Silvis of Monticello, Ga., and Donahue B. Silvis of Naples, Fla.

Mr. Silvis grew up in Monticello and was a graduate of Piedmont Academy.

He is survived by his wife, Melissa Silvis of Milner; son, Ryan Scott Silvis, a sophomore at Texas A&M University in the Corps of Cadets; sister, Stacey Silvis of Naples, Fla.; and niece, Sara Barnhill, a student at Florida State University.

Scott was preceded in death by his mother and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert F. Morgan, Sr. of Monticello; Marjorie Cooper of Muskegon, Mich., and Jupiter, Fla.; and his uncle, Robert F. Morgan, Jr. of Douglasville.

Scott was an instructor at Southern Crescent Technical College in Griffin, where he developed the Paralegal Studies program. Prior to his teaching career, he practiced law in Atlanta. Scott was a graduate of Oglethorpe University and Emory University Law School. He was a member of St. George’s Episcopal Church in Griffin.

Scott suffered a severe stroke in June 2016. He made a valiant recovery effort with the strong support of his wife, son, friends and staff of Shepherd Center in Atlanta. He will be remembered for his fun personality, seemingly endless wit and wisdom. Scott loved entertaining friends with cookouts and home parties, and traveling with his wife, son, and friend, especially to New Orleans, Jekyll Island and snow skiing destinations in the western states. He loved all sports, especially baseball, football and golf, but most of all he enjoyed supporting his son in multiple sports endeavors over the years. Ryan was his pride and joy.

In accordance with Scott’s wishes, his body will be cremated, and his ashes will be interred alongside his mother’s ashes. A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 15, 2017, at St. George’s Episcopal Church, Griffin, with the Reverend Nancy D. Shepherd officiating.
