Mrs Julia B. Goolsby

A celebration of life for Julia B. Goolsby was held Friday, April 14, at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Monticello. Rev. Joe McKibben officiated; burial was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Goolsby was born October 1, 1928 to the late Gus Benton and the late Eula Benton. She was a faithful member of Bethlehem Baptist Church until her health failed. Mrs. Goolsby was the mother of the church and served as secretary/treasurer for several years. She enjoyed fishing, gardening and cooking.

She worked at Bibb Manufacturing Company in Porterdale, and Georgia-Pacific in Monticello.

In 1962, she married the late Ivey Goolsby.

On Sunday, April 9, 2017, Julia went home to the Lord.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lucy Ruth Andrews; two brothers, Otis Benton and Johnny Benton, and two sisters, Mary Walker and Addie Lou Smith.

Survivors include five children, Pauline Braswell, Otis P. Grier, Hazel (Joe) Lawson, Mello Griggs and Lovette Goolsby; a brother, Hulon Benton; a sister, Willie R. Williams; two step-children, Norris Goolsby and Lee Goolsby. Also, she leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Smith and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
