Hattie Geneva Bellamy McElheney

Hattie Geneva Bellamy McElheney, age 95, passed away Friday, April 21, 2017, at The Retreat Nursing Home.

Geneva McElheney was born in Homer, Ga., to the late Groze Marion Bellamy and Alma Belle Strange Bellamy. She graduated from high school at Palmer Stone in Newton County. Her family moved from Oxford, Ga., to Monticello in the early 1940s.

Geneva worked at Jasper Memorial Hospital as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and retired after 32 years of service. She was also an Avon and Tupperware salesperson and worked for the Monticello Manufacturing Plant.

Geneva was a member of the Monticello Baptist Church and the Fidelis Sunday School Class. She enjoyed growing houseplants; especially African Violets. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and caregiver to many.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jefferson Calhoun “J. C.” McElheney; sisters, Eva Louella Bellamy, Jeanette B. Pearson, Robbie B. Treece; and brothers, Clifford Bellamy and Otis Bellamy.

She is survived by her sons, J. Marion (Dorothy) McElheney and J. Cal (Lynn) McElheney of Monticello; grandchildren, James M. (Robin) McElheney, Jr., Janet M. McElheney (Fred Kapfhammer), and Ashley (Derek) Lafferty; great-grandchildren, Blake McElheney and Brooke McElheney; and sister, Dr. Bonnie Fay Howard of Athens.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at the Monticello Baptist Church. Dr. Robert Whitmire and Rev. Jim Elliott will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m., Monday, April 24, 2017, at Jordan Funeral Home.

Serving as pallbearers will be James McElheney, Jr., Fred Kapfhammer, Thurman Willis, Jr., Derek Lafferty, Larry Smith and Billy Key “Pete” Malone. Honorary pallbearers will be Janet McElheney, Ashley Lafferty, Blake McElheney and Brooke McElheney.

The family suggests donations to the Monticello Baptist Church 334 W. Greene Street, Monticello, Ga. 31064.
