Mrs. Dorothy Mae Ammons
A celebration of life for Mrs. Dorothy Mae Ammons was held Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at Philadelphia Baptist Church in Monticello. Rev. Terry Glawson, pastor, officiated; burial was in New Damascus Baptist Church Cemetery in Jones County.
Mrs. Ammons was born April 26, 1932 in Putnam County, the daughter of the late Richmond, Sr., and Everlena Thomas. She died May 18, 2017.
Mrs. Ammons attended school in Putnam County. She joined Brown Chapel C.M.E. Church at an early age where she was a faithful member. She married Joe Ammons in June, 1954, and they were together until his death in 1999.
For 20 years, she worked faithfully at the canning factory in Bradley. Mrs. Ammons was known for growing beautiful flowers and working in her gardens.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Walker Thomas, Miller Thomas, Richmond Thomas, Jr., and Joe L. Thomas, and a sister, Alma Willis.
She leaves to cherish her memories, two sisters, Regina Gotel and Eunice Smith of Monticello; three sisters-in-law, Annie L. Thomas of Covington, Deloris King of Macon and Katie M. Ammons of Jones County, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Smith and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
