Hoyt Eugene ‘Gene’ Batchelor, Sr.

Hoyt Eugene “Gene” Batchelor, Sr., age 79, of Morrow, passed away Sunday, June 11, 2017, at his residence.

Gene Batchelor was born in Jasper County, to the late Joseph Roy Batchelor and Vulula Long Batchelor. He was a 1955 graduate of Monticello High School. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

Gene moved to Morrow in the mid 1970s and worked as an insurance salesman. He was an active member of Glen Haven Baptist Church and the church Sunday school class; and a former member of Parkway Baptist Church, where he sang in the church choir. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Clyde Wilks Batchelor; step-daughter, Linda Gale Bramlett; and brothers and sister, Frederick Adair “Freddy” Batchelor, Joseph Wendell Batchelor and Mary Elizabeth Batchelor Carswell.

He is survived by his son, Hoyt Eugene “Butch” Batchelor, Jr. of Derry, N.H.; granddaughter, Kimberly Nicole Batchelor of Chester, N.H.; step-children, Gary Claude Raper of Alabama and Cherra Lynn Cason of Georgia; and a number of step-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 17, 2017, at the chapel of Jordan Funeral Home. Interment will be held in West View Cemetery. Rev. Stan Berrong will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 9 until 11 a.m., Saturday, June 17, 2017, prior to the service at Jordan Funeral Home.
