Monticello Council O.K.s SPLOST Projects
Members of the Monticello City Council met in a brief meeting Tuesday to discuss and approve 2018 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) projects that will appear on the election ballot this year.
The tax will continue what is already in place with sales tax remaining at seven percent, the same as it is currently. The projects on their list included the following:
Water and sewer projects to include new water lines, well upgrades, and sewer line repairs
The costs of the water and sewer projects are projected to be $500,000.
Road/sidewalk improvement and parking to include a parking lot downtown, sidewalk extension and repair and resurfacing money for LMIG projects. This project is allocated $350,000.
The SPLOST will also provide revenue for a new utility building for the natural gas and electric facilities. Tasks include constructing a new facility to include offices and restrooms for natural gas and electric departments; provide storage for materials; provide shelter for equipment.
The council approved special zoning to allow a day care facility to operate at an address on Persons Street in Monticello. The Planning and Zoning Commission recommended the conditional use permit as long as the applicant installed a fence in the back of the property at least six feet high.
In updates the council appointed Tricia Armistead to the Downtown Development Authority and heard that the board has begun to meet, elect officers, and come up with bylaws.
The council also voted to appoint Tamala Alexander and Stephanie Puckett to the Historic Preservation Board.
