Lady ‘Canes Scrimmage Today
The Lady Hurricanes varsity softball squad will begin its 2017 season today, August 3 with an away scrimmage at Monroe Area High School beginning at 5:30 p.m.
The squad has been busy much of the summer with early morning practices and drills in preparation for the new season. The ladies participated in a tournament last week at Mary Persons High School.
The 2017 squad includes seniors Lauren Mosley, Jessi Caron, Calie Batson, Morgan Clement, and O’neil Sealy; juniors Kaitlyn Wilbanks, Kenzie Abbott, Lacey Rutledge, Madison Abbott, Mia Jenkins, and Mackenzie Tripp; sophomores Ella Noonan, Sabrah Russom, Taylor Bloodworth, Makayla Wages, Alicia Tripp; and freshmen Allie Jones, Bailey Jenkins, Marley Sands, and Hailie Tripp.
The varsity squad is coached by veteran head coach Chris Jenkins under whose tenure the squad was named Region Champs in 2008, 2009, 2012 and 2013 while making it into the state playoffs 11 times since 2005.
The regular season opener will be next Wednesday, August 9 with the Lady Canes hosting Eastside High School of Covington. On Thursday, August 10 the ladies will travel to Mary Persons for competition. Both games will begin at 5:30 p.m.
The regular season will run through September 27 after which the region tournament will begin
