Cougar Opener A Week Away

With the 2017 season opener now just a little more than a week away, the Piedmont Academy football team is in full preparation mode.

The Cougars will host Bethlehem Christian Academy on Friday, Aug. 11, as the new campaign officially begins. For Piedmont coach Wes Tanner, every day is valuable in terms of getting ready for the Class AAA Knights.

“Practice has been going well,” Tanner said. “I am super proud of how well the players have been progressing. We are putting in a few new wrinkles and our numbers have also increased since earlier in the summer.”

Piedmont competed in a 7-on-7 passing league event at BCA in recent weeks and the Cougar coaches will have the chance to scout BCA in a preseason scrimmage this Friday.

With the Knights being the season opening opponent, it gives Piedmont more time to concentrate on them.

“We are in somewhat of a unique situation right now,” Tanner said. “We are still trying to work on fundamentals some but are also game planning for our first opponent.”

The Cougars are hoping to avenge a close setback to BCA in the 2016 season opener.
