TE Grant Is Approved

The Monticello City Council heard from Jim Moneyhun, on behalf of the Jasper Co. Historical Foundation on the Department of Transportation (DOT) Transportation Enhancement (TE) project that includes Seven Islands Road.

Mr. Moneyhun stated that bids were sought for the project, and they received a bid for $440,750. This bid was reviewed by the architect over the project and approved.

The JCHF asked the city to accept the bid and to submit it to the Georgia DOT (GDOT) on their behalf. Portions of the monies for this project are coming from a Disadvantage Business Enterprise (DBE). There is no financial obligation to the city.

Once the GDOT approves the bid then construction can proceed on the project. The council voted unanimously to accept the bid and to present it to GDOT.

During the city manager items, Doug White informed the council that their Comprehensive Plan is due in 2018. He said that David Dyer, Mike Benton, along with himself went and spoke to the Northeast Georgia Regional Commission and agreed to let them take the lead on the plan.

The city’s cost for NEGRDC would not exceed $4,000 for the plan, according to Mr. White. The council approved this recommendation.

Mr. White also briefly mentioned that Joe Reitman, City Attorney, recommended an intergovernmental agreement with the county code enforcement office in the upcoming year. This was recommended as a result of the Magistrate court not hearing code enforcement cases for the city.

The council was also presented a proposed Subscribed Regulatory Compliance Service (SRCS) Contract Amendment option, however there was little to no discussion on this as the city attorney was not present.

Other business included approval of the consent agenda (minutes and payables) and approving the purchase of a 2018 Chevrolet Colorado as a meter reading truck for the city. The cost of the truck was $23,134 and the bid came from Ginn Commercial in Covington. The truck was a requested item that was included in the budget.
