Lady Cougars Defeat Brentwood

Piedmont Academy’s varsity softball team was able to return to the field Monday with a 9-2 victory against Brentwood at home.

The Lady Cougars, who had two games postponed due to rain last week, improved to 2-1 with Monday’s victory. Piedmont jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning and added six runs in the fourth inning to take control of the contest.

Brentwood scored runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

Maddie Morton and Neely Bradford both pitched for Piedmont Monday. Haley Ann Frank, Hailey Hooper, Madison Johnson and Bradford helped lead the offense.

“We played well,” said coach Colt Spivey. “It was really the first game we had our full varsity team. We didn’t have any defensive miscues and we had solid pitching and the offense did well.”

The Lady Cougars were scheduled to play at home Wednesday against Windsor and will travel to Loganville Christian Academy today, August 17 for a 6 p.m. game.

The August 8 game with Briarwood has been rescheduled for October 2. The August 10 game against Trinity Christian School will be made up at a later date.
