Calvin Williams Avant

Calvin Williams Avant, age 71, of Jones County, passed away Sunday, August 20, 2017, in Macon.

Mr. Avant was born in Jones County to the late Herman Glover Avant and Sybil Williams Avant. Calvin served in the U. S. Navy on the aircraft carrier USS Hancock during the Vietnam Conflict.

He loved hunting, gardening and spending time with his grandsons. He also enjoyed Saturday morning yard sales and traveling. Before retirement, he worked as an engineer for the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Mr. Avant was also preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Louise Harrison Avant; and sister, Shirley Anne Avant.

He is survived by his loving companion, Wylene Moore of Jones County; sons, Cliff (Nikki) Avant of Gray and Dan Avant of Hillsboro; grandsons, Colson Avant, Cayden Avant, Jackson Avant, and Benjamin Calvin Avant; brothers, Hunter Avant and Herman “Buddy” Avant of Hillsboro; and sisters, Frances Pope of Haddock, Christine Daniels of Gray and Sue Clifford of Hillsboro.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at Union Hill Baptist Church in Hillsboro. Interment will be held in the church cemetery. Revs. Harold Thompson and Marty Dillion will officiate.

Serving as pallbearers will be Preston Wynens, Wayne McNeal, Kendell McNeal, Michael Chancey, Craig Harrison, Sydney Dumas and Sam Smith.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, August 22, 2017, at Jordan Funeral Home.
