Lady Cougars Shut Out John Milledge
Piedmont Academy’s varsity softball team cruised to a 14-0 road win against John Milledge Academy Monday afternoon.
Coach Colt Spivey’s team had several standout offensive performances as the Lady Cougars (4-1) earned the win in four innings. Madison Johnson led the team with four hits while Neely Bradford and Cassidy Cook both had two.
Piedmont started the game with four runs in the first inning and then added two more in the second and one in the third before scoring seven runs in the top of the fourth inning. The Lady Cougars added another run in the fourth inning.
Bradford, Hailey Hooper and Cook each drove in two runs. Lucy Tuggle, Morton and Jayden Young drew walks.
Maddie Morton was dominant in the pitcher’s circle keeping John Milledge off the scoreboard. Morton had five strikeouts in Monday’s win.
The Lady Cougars also defeated Windsor Academy Aug. 16 at home 3-1.
Piedmont scored all three of its runs in the bottom of the third inning.
Bradford went the distance pitching all seven innings recording eight strikeouts.
Cook and Ava Anglin both had two hits to lead the offense in a game dominated by pitching. Cook and Anglin also drove in a run each.
The game scheduled for Aug. 17 at Loganville Christian Academy was not played due to weather conditions. Coach Spivey said it will be rescheduled for a later date.
Piedmont is scheduled to host Macon FCA today, Aug. 24, at 5:30 p.m. before hosting John Milledge in a rematch on Monday at 6 p.m.
